Offered in this listing is an adorable vintage mohair puppy dog pyjama case. His classic ‘play-with-me’ pose and windswept, fluffy mohair have earned him the nickname “Scruffly”. Doubling up as a soft toy, Scruffly would look great sitting on a bed or chair, where his soulful expression is sure to invite a lot of attention!

Dating to circa 1950’s, this is a particularly well constructed case, with firm stuffing in the limbs so that he holds his shape even without nightwear inside. His labels are missing but judging from the style and quality we believe that he may be a Farnell.

Materials: Scruffly is crafted from mohair in beige and russet, subtly shaded along his back to suggest the markings of the dog. His black ears and tail are artificial silk plush (please note, this type of plush has a tendency to shed!) He is lined with quilted synthetic satin with a metal zip closure. His black and amber eyes are plastic and he has embroidered features. He is firmly stuffed with wood wool/straw.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Prior to purchase, please ensure that your country does not prohibit import of vintage teddy bears stuffed with wood-wool.

Condition: Overall good vintage condition and could be used for its original purpose if so desired. There is some thinning of the mohair, consistent with age, most obvious on the forelegs, shoulders and top of head. There is a bald patch at the top of the back, although this appears to be a fault of the weave in the mohair pile rather than hair loss. There are some knots of thread showing (on the back of the head and left side of the face) but these are construction threads rather than repairs. On the interior there is some minor discolouration to the edge of the lining where the zip has rubbed and a small pull to the quilting (approximately 4cm in length). There is some minor scuffing to the surface of the plastic eyes. The zip works well. He has had a gentle and thorough clean and brush up.

We endeavour to be as thorough as possible with our descriptions but please take advantage of the zoom function in the listing photographs.

Dimensions: Approximately 16.5″ (42 cm) from the tip of his tail to the front of his paws, 7.5″ (19 cm) tall and 7″ (17.7 cm) at his widest point.
