We are carrying out a deceased’s estate clearance and have a large number of antique and vintage toys to sell here on ebay which we will be listing over the next few weeks.  Along with other items from the same estate clearance.  Hope you find something of interest, please also take a look at our other items!  Many thanks for your interest.

We found this lovely old antique bear in our recent estate clearance.  Possibly German in origin. He was in an old suitcase with some old clothing and bedding.  Alongside the old bear was a photograph of a little girl holding what we think may well be this same old bear, the bear in the photo certainly looks to be similar, so we are including the photograph in the sale of this bear as it would be nice for the items to stay together.  The photo appears to date from early 1900’s and is very sweet (please see photo).  Ted was also found wearing the little antique wooden brooch with a lucky oak leaf and 2 little painted lucky acorns (please see photos), so we have also left this on him too as we are again reluctant to seperate this old bear from his possessions!  (It’s strange but looking at the bear from a distance it almost looks like he is wearing a row of war medals pinned to his chest the way the brooch is pinned on him, maybe that’s what the brooch is meant to signify as it would seem that he was indeed around in the era of WW1 when perhaps the little girls father received medals).

We think this bear could well have a bit of a history.

Ted is dark brown in colour although he has some fading and his legs are darker than his upper body.  He is believed to date from early 1900’s.  He is approximately 21″ tall and has a long snout, hump back, articulated limbs and head, black/dark button eyes, stitched nose and claws, and he has resin type pads on paws and feet.  He is hard filled – feels like wood or straw?  In good/fair condition for his age, some fading to his upper body but no holes or bits falling off.  Teddy has discs at his arms and head joints and his joints move very well (no stiffness).  Can feel hardness in his tummy, maybe a non-working growler, cannot be sure. His legs and head are darker than his body as mentioned above, so little bit of fading to his tummy and top of his legs, perhaps where he has been played with and his legs have got dustier than the rest of him?

Obviously ted has been well loved in his time, some fading to his fur in places, he is a bit wobbley and his old pads are well worn.

We are no experts on bears but please contact us if you need any further information.  Good luck if bidding on this wonderful find.   Please give him a good home and take care of him!

Thankyou for your interest and good luck if bidding.
