Steiff Limited Edition Edwardian musical Opera Bear for Harrods

This is a replica of the first ‘Teddy Bear’, made by Richard Steiff for the Steiff factory of Giengen Germany in 1902. The original was the first ever jointed bear – meaning that the arms, legs and head were all designed to rotate.

The Steiff Harrods Musical Edwardian Opera Bear, as it is known, was made for Harrods of London in 1994, where they were sold as a special limited edition of just 2000 bears.

Each bear was sold with a certificate of authentication. This is bear number: 00705:please see pictures.

The Harrods’ bears are made from finest long pile mohair, with suede feet. The nose and paws are all hand-stitched. The cape is real velvet with a white lining. The bear has a wind-up musical mechanism which plays All I ask of You, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s song from The Phantom of The Opera.

Due to the limited edition, these bears are quite rare, and consequently are highly sort after by collectors.

Condition:

This Teddy bear has never been treated as a toy, only as a collector’s item, so the condition is very good. The box that the bear came in has a few very minor scuffs, one very minor tear, plus a couple of very slightly compressed corners.

The certificate that comes with the bear has been permanently scrolled, but would present as being in excellent condition if framed.

The bear itself is in excellent condition with no obvious signs of wear or degradation. The winder on the bear’s back is very stiff (probably due to lack of use), but it can be turned and the bear does still play its tune.

This item has been listed with a Buy Now option, as well as a realistic reserve price to reflect its proper value.

Will ship to the UK, only.

Good Luck with the bidding.
