Dating circa 1928, these cute koalas were produced by JungleToys, a London-based soft toy manufacturer which existed between 1914 and the1950s. These little charmers can be accurately dated to the late 1920s by anadvertisement taken out by the company in the July 1927 edition of Games andToys, which at that time was the British toy trade’s leading publication. Although it isall but forgotten today, in its heyday Jungle Toys was renowned for its highquality wild animal toys. The Bingos are made from pale blond mohair with a slightblue/grey tinge. Their limbs are fixed in a sitting position but their heads swivel; they have black glass eyes and black, horizontally stitched noses. One Bingo measures 4.5 inches while the other is slightlysmaller at just 4 inches. Both are in good condition for their age althoughthey have suffered some mohair loss.
