A rare, antique mehanical German Bing bear c.1913, with the most exquisite face. Now retired since he’s missing his props – he originally stood on metal wheels and had a metal clockwork ball (see advertising pic) attached to his left paw that pulled him along. Even so, he’s a gorgeous ted in his own right, with lots of lovely cinnamon mohair.
Measuring 20 cms (8″) tall, and stuffed with woodwool, he retains his original features: shoebutton eyes, a black-embroidered nose and mouth, plus a full set of claws. His felt footpads have some darned repairs, but are still in good condition. As with Bing’s early Skater Bear, his neck is unjointed and forms part of his body. His arms are internally wired, and also wire-jointed. His legs too are on a wire, and there’s also a metal bar jutting through each side of him, but the right side is covered by his leg. I’m not sure what purpose this served, unless it was part of the clockwork mechanism. Overall, he’s a delightful teddy bear, in need of a loving retirement home. Please note the ball shown with teddy, is only a prop I’ve used for his photos, and not included in the listing. Thanks for looking.
