This is a rare jointed “laughing” teddy bear with a mechanical mouth feature operated from the back of the head. A similar bear is featured on page 79 of the Dorling Kindersley Ultimate Teddy Bear Book (shown in final pic). From the remnant of the label on its foot I’ve identified this as a Tara Bear “Made in Republic of Ireland” in the fifties. He’s approximately 14″ tall and his mouth is operated by a lever on the back of his head which moves up and down. There’s also a knob above this which pulls in and out but doesn’t seem to do anything. There is wear to the nose and some areas of wear to his mohair plush fur mainly the back of his head, right leg and tummy but generally good condition for age. The same type of bear is retailing at 500 online with Blakesley Bears and it has no eyes.Any questions, please ask.
