RARE Farnell Soldier Bear Tiny Miniature 9cm Old Antique Mohair Teddy c1915 WWI
Tommy, is a rare early 1900s “soldier bear” made in England by Farnell.
He stands around 9 centimetres tall and was designed as a mascot to be given to British soldiers before leaving to fight in World War One. They were made so small so that they could be put in a top pocket or down a sock of the soldiers’ uniform.
He’s in amazing condition with virtually no loss of mohair and he also still has his original green bead eyes and pipe cleaner ears, which are so often lost.
As he’s so small, he was made with no pads on his hands or feet, but he does have a slightly shaved muzzle to give appearance of a nose.
His joints are pinned on one side and the pin is folded back on itself on the other side – all these are tight and work as they should.
Finally he has a tiny bit of red and white cotton left around his neck
All in all he is a truly stunning little bear in wonderful condition.
