Mr Bailey is one of the most wonderful bears weve ever had. Hes a German teddy made by Eduard Cramer (EDUCA), sometime around 1915-1920. Hes a very rare teddy bear, I have never seen an EDUCA before except in reference books and very high-end collections.
He’s what I would call a medium sized bear and stands around 40cm tall. His joints are all firm and he is stuffed with woodwool. His feet pads are original felt and have the woodwool showing. His paw pads have been recovered with linen a long time ago, although I suspect his original pads may be underneath.
He has the typical pronounced muzzle of Cramer bears, as well as long arms, and the distinctive original tan coloured nose, mouth and claw stitching (which are all still present). Coupled with his original, small clear glass eyes with painted back, his features give him an unmistakable and striking look.
He has lovely, high quality, soft, short, creamy mohair and has lost very little for a bear whos 100 or so years old. He only has 3-4 very small patches patches of loss, but really nothing that bigger than a fingernail.
He has nice big feet and a firm hump, with no sagging or loss of stuffing as is so often the case with old bears.
I would say his original growler half works – it definitely makes a noise (not just a rattle) but is intermittent and more of a demure squeak than a growl.
All in all, Mr Bailey is a truly charming teddy bear who would look at home as leading bear in any collection, and although hes an expensive teddy I would say hes worth every penny – I love him.
