RARE c1913 Einco Kwacky-Jack Sailor Duck w/ tag
This is Kwacky-Jack. He is a very rare Sailor duck made by the English company Einco c1913 – making him well over 100 years old, and from right at the beginning of British teddy bear manufacture.
He measures around 8 inches tall, is stuffed with woodwool, with wired tail and legs with felt covered wooden feet. He is in completely original condition with yellow mohair, cotton & felt sailor outfit complete with hat and original ribbon detailing, and has an orange felt beak.
He retains his beautiful Einco googly eyes, working squeaker(!) and unbelievably rare Einco swing tag label.
Kwacky-Jack was spoken about in a newspaper article in 1913… “Kwacky-jack” is a weird-looking creature, half duck and half human. Asked if these grotesque toys were harmful to the minds of small children, a doctor replied that he did not think so, for the imagination of the little ones was not sufficiently developed to realise that the toys were not normal. Perhaps they are designed to catch the eyes of the grown-ups. If so, they do.”
I feel really privileged to possess a lovely little character like Kwacky-Jack, and I’m confident he’ll make a very happy exciting addition to any Einco/Duck/Teddy Bear collection.
