Charming antique character teddy bear of British origin, dating from 1910s,
made of gold mohair,
hard stuffed with excelsior throughout the body and head,
fully jointed,
has got clear and black glass eyes with brown painted backs, right eye is and original ‘oily’ effect, left eye is later replacement,nose stitching is missing, but still complete with original black cloth sewn on, inverted Y shape mouth stitching is possibly replacement,
original cloth pads to three of the limbs, left foot pad is well matching replacement,
five claws stitching to all limbs with some claws worn,
high hump and high chest,inoperative cardboard growler in the chest,final seam runs to the front,wears antique pink silk robe embroidered with cranes.
Teddy Bear is approx. 21″ (52 cm) tall.
Condition – item is in well loved antique condition with general wear, thinning and balding, few pin-holes to mohair, old repairs to split ankles; joints a bit loose; in general teddy bear is in quite fragile condition, but still full of charm and character.
