A wonderful, very rare antique schuco fox with working clockwork mechanism c.1920s. All original, except for his key which is a replacement, Foxy is in really super condition. There’s some minimal wear to his metal base – a few scratches and a little of the black paint has worn off, no doubt due to him marching about when his key winder is turned. Also on the base are the words ‘SCHUCO PATENT MADE IN GERMANY’.
As with many Schuco novelty animals, Foxy is made of tinplate – his head is covered with mohair, and he has mohair paws. The rest of him is covered with his felt clothes, which are in splendid condition with no holes are fading. There’s just a tiny spot of what feels like old glue to the front of his pants.
Foxy’s eyes are amber glass, and he has a black embroidered nose and mouth, plus a full set of whiskers. Attached to him is a little metal case, which has been designed to look like he’s carrying a goose in a cage. This houses his clockwork mechanism. Foxy’s bushy tail is a pipecleaner, and he’s simply a great little character measuring 13 cms (5″) high including ears, which have airbrushed markings. His fur is ginger and white mohair, but looks more yellow in my photos. Foxy is a really expressive fellow, with a happy face. Thanks for looking.
