Mabel is a tiny fur mouse toy with a “made in West Germany” label, dating to the 1950s.
In theĀ mid 1960s, a children’s author called Elsie Wrigley wrote a book about one of these tiny mice, which she called “The Tale of the Bookmouse”, and in it, the mouse had a very important job to do, which was to use his tail to serve as a bookmark to save the page, whilst he perched on top of the spine until the next reading session!
It is a delightful book, my favourote as a child and my reason for collecting so many of these little fellas! (I have kept one for my own copy of the book).
Mabel is a dressed girl version and in lovely condition….EXCEPT!!!! She is the only one of my mouse listings who doesnt have a tail at all!! So in order to be a “proper” bookmouse, she needs a new mum or dad who could perhaps fix her up with one…
A wonderful little character bear for any miniature bear collection. I am thinning out my miniature bear collection so please see my other listings.
