Very handsome and large size 1930’s English teddy bear. 28″ tall.
This large and handsome antique teddy bear stands at a whopping 28″ tall to the top of his head not including his large cupped ears and dates to circa 1930. He is completely wood wool stuffed and five ways jointed with all his joints working smoothly and holding their position so he can be nicely posed. His paw pads and foot pads were replaced a long time ago and his nose stitching may have been replaced, I am not sure, but his mouth stitching has because I replaced it myself!
Big Ted has a good covering of his blonde mohair with some thinning and small bare spots but I would estimate he has retained a good 80% coverage overall. He has the look of an English bear but I am not sure of his maker as he has some of the features of a Farnell bear, including his front closing seam but he also looks a little like the Chad Valley smiles bears although I have never seen one this big before! Regardless of who made him, he is a quality bear in an unusual large size, with a great profile and bags of charm and character and he would make a fabulous addition to any hug of bears.
