Henry is an interesting little sheepskin jointed bear, made around the late 1930s, possibly by Chad Valley although he has no label.
He is 11″ tall with glass eyes, coal shaped hand stitched nose, typical of Chad Valley bears from this era, and a stitched mouth. He has leather paw and foit pads, all in very good condition. The quality of the workmanship is exceptional, which again leads me to Chad Valley, as sheepskin was notoriously difficult to work with and many sheepskin bears from this period have either not survived or they are in awful condition. Henry has a “mummy repair” in black cotton to his right cheek, and another to the back of his left arm, but otherwise he is in very good condition. He is clean and fresh smelling and displays beautifully with other old bears. A wonderful old character bear to add to your collection.
