Henry is a dear old mohair bear dating to the early 1930s. He is 26″ tall and although his eyes are missing his original nose and mouth stitching is in very good order. He has an early Merrythought label to his foot, and a non working growler to his tummy. He has some of his original claw and paw stitching but bizarrely somebody has seen fit to run stitching through all of his pads, possibly to retain the stuffing, see pics. I am not even entirely convinced that the label has not been added later, as the “stitching run” looks like it is going underneath the label. However, he is undoubtedly a genuine early bear and has the dropped outer stitching to his nose typical of the early Merrythought bears. I have also seen early Chiltern bears in a similar design. Despite his little foibles and additions he is a smashing old bear in a rare, large size, is fresh and clean smelling, and would make a lovely addition to any bear collection.
