A very well-loved Merrythought Bingie bear c.1930s, with the earliest ‘Made in England’ embroidered label sewn to the inside of his right leg. He measures 30cms (12″) high in his fixed seated position, and has a swivel head and jointed arms. Bingie’s muzzle is quite squidgy where the stuffing has settled, and his original nose stitching is a tad scruffy, but intact, along with his mouth.
He has amber glass eyes which may be original, while his velvet pads are old replacements. There’s a few claws remaining, and he’s stuffed with kapok, so very soft and cuddly. He has a makeshift ‘mummy’ repair to the left of his torso which is about 2″ long – his little homemade jacket is sewn round him, so I haven’t been able to remove it to show the full extent of the sewn repair but please see photo to get an idea.
Bingie has patchy bald areas to his curly blonde mohair, but the coverage is still pretty good, and his white artsilk-lined ears are similarly balding. Overall, he’s a a bear full of character – a baby ted in need of a loving home. Thanks for looking.
