Adorable and very rare little Cudlam Panda Bear. Made in England in the 1950s or possiblyearly 60s, Panda is approximately 10 long with articulated back and front legs. His head is fixed, his body feels quite firmso perhaps straw filled? Hes made outof lambswool. He doesnt appear to havea growler Im not even sure if Pandas were/are made with growlers. He has amber eyes and a hard nose I assumeboth of these are plastic. Whilst a well-made, quality item, safety standards for childrenstoys are quite different now than they were in the 50s/60s and I wouldtherefore suggest that this is suitable as a collectors piece or for an adultwho wishes to rekindle childhood memories rather than for a child. Ive been able to find a littleinformation about Cudlam bears: Manufactured by Plummer & Wandlesswho specialised in sheepskin bears in the 1950s. The company was formed by Daphne Plummerand her husband John and traded from 1946-1972. Several manufacturers were establishedin the UK after World War II. Due to therationing of mohair, the companies made teddy bears out of sheepskin, amaterial that remained popular until the 1960s. ConditionVery good vintage condition, his left paw feels very slightlylooser than the right but articulates well and he has a little flattening ofthe wool pile on his back where he has been sitting against a hard surface fora while, otherwise remarkably good condition for the age perhaps he wasntloved as much as he deserves to be.
