I used make and sell teddy bears, and this is a vintage bear who I bought from an antiques fair, years ago.  I don’t know much about him, but I was told at the time that he was made in the 1930s.

He is very big – approximately 24 inches from head to toes – fully jointed (although a little stiff now), filled with wood wool, and with amber glass eyes and an embroidered nose.  I’m not sure what the fabric is; i don’t think it’s mohair, but the backing feels like cotton.  The paw pads and the upper part of his muzzle are made in white cotton.

He is seriously balding, although he has more fur round the back, thanks to his little jacket.  He has what look to me like a number of professional repairs (I have shown one in the photos), but also a number of smaller holes.  All his flaws are pretty stable – he’s certainly not going to fall apart any time soon.

He has a neck ribbon and a beautifully made brown velvet jacket, with a jingling coin-trim – that also has both repairs and holes – with a label in the neck saying ‘bearn’ (I think) – that’s why I called him Bernie.

Finally, every since I’ve had him, he has sat in a handmade wooden rocking chair, which I bought at the big Hugglets teddy bear fair in London.  I’d would like him to go with his chair, but you don’t have to have it if you don’t want it.  I haven’t added anything extra onto the price for the chair – i bought the bear for 60, and that’s what I’ve put him up for.

He will be be sent by courier – the cheapest I can find – but if you’d like to collect him, you’re quite welcome.
