DELIGHTFUL C1920 ALPHA FARNELL ANTIQUE TERRIER DOG CSAR THE KING’S DOG & HIS BOOK
“WHERE’S MASTER” BY CSAR THE KING’S DOG
(15TH EDITION 1910)
This delightful antique terrier dog made by Alpha Farnell dates from the early 1920’s. He is thought to be a version of the King’s Dog Csar (although he is not jointed, he is identical in every way to dog’s we have seen sold at Doll & Teddy Bear Fairs, and also on the internet.
He no longer retains his makers label, but still has the original red string stitched to the front of his neck which would originally have had an attached paper label with ‘I am Csar’ printed on it.He is beautifully made, quite realistic and more or less ‘life size’, measuring approximately 16 inches in length (from nose to tail) and 12 inches in height (to top of his head).He is unjointed, but has wire armatures inside all his legs which gives them some movement (albeit rather limited).
He is made of white and black mohair which retains approximately 95% coverage and is very clean and soft, and retain very good original unfaded colour. He is stuffed entirely with wood wool which is still very firmly and evenly distributed, and he has a non operative growler located in the left side of his body.
He retains his original expressive and beautiful large (stitched in) painted back glass eyes and original black vertically stitched nose with longer end stitches and original black stitched muzzle.
He has very little playwear for his age and in very good condition.
His antique crimson neck ribbon is not original to him but is included in the sale.Also included in the sale is an antique (children’s) book:

This is a15th edition, published December 1910 (the book was first published in January 1910). 8vo hardback, pictorial front board with pictorial onlay. There is a beautifully drawn b/w frontispiece). Pages have minor age related foxing on margins. Boards also have minor foxing and are a little marked. Spine is complete with no splits or repairs. Corners of boards a little bumped and slightly rubbed. Front and rear endpapers are still intact. Generally sound, good example of a very difficult to find children’s book.
HE IS AN ENDEARING LITTLE DOG WITH A GREAT DEAL OF CHARM & ‘HIS’ BOOK IS CHARMING, COLLECTABLE & DIFFICULT TO FIND.
HE DISPLAYS BEAUTIFULLY & HIS BOOK IS THE PERFECT DISPLAY ACCESSORY!
