Beau is a beautiful, smiley, old, fully jointed mohair Cheeky bear by Merrythought, dating to the 1950s.
He is exceptionally large at 27″ tall, and he is all original, including his eyes, hand stitched nose and mouth, and original claw and foot stitching. His head, arms and legs are all firmly filled and he as an early “Regd Design” label to his right foot pad .
His mohair is in lovely clean, bright, relatively unworn and sweet smelling condition. His pads are original with no rips or tears to two paws, but there is a small hole to the left foot pad and another small one to the top of the right foot pad plus a rip in the pad just below the label.
His only real flaw is that his left ear is barely hanging on (see pics) but it wouldn’t be a very big job to stitch it back to his head. He has the trademark fully jingling bell in his right ear.
He has the very unusual feature (for a jointed bear, a Cheeky bear, and even a mohair bear) of also being a pyjama or nightdress case, with a fully working zip to his back and a roomy compartment with a lining in very good condition (see pics).
He has the most friendly, characterful face and comes complete with his natty vintage racing car waistcoat. Even without his unusual characteristics he is a wonderful example of an early Merrythought Cheeky bear and would make a lovely addition to any bear collection.
