Very rare hand painted velvet Victorian pekingese dog pin cushion soft toy. Circa 1890’s
This wonderful little velvet peke dog is made from velvet with the most exquisite hand painted detail as you can see from the photos. She measures 5.5″ tall and dates to the late Victorian era and is similar to the Steiff pin cushion animalsof that period, but the painted features are much more detailed with individual hairs visible and the legs and the paws on the body and the carded base match up and give the dog a three dimensional effect. She is in very good period
condition with a few small and neat stitched repairs on the base but no serious damage. There are a few coloured bead
head pins which came with the peke which I will leave in her although they are later in date.
I also have a pug dog which came with this pekingese and the two of them are extemely rare one of a kind, handmade and painted velvet pin cushion/soft toys that you will not see again. They would both make a fabulous additionto any soft toy or sewing pin cushion collection.
