Antique French porcelain head Paris doll with original clothing
An unusual antique French doll, with porcelain head, blue glass fixed eyes and real hair wig, dressed in a traditional French farmer’s costume with linen work smock (biaude) wooden clogs, striped work trousers and work hat. The doll is 24cms high (9 1/2″), and is stamped Paris at the back of the head. I think the body is some kind of composition, but I cannot remove the clothing, so it is difficult to see. The arms, legs and head are jointed. I cannot spot any damage, though the face is a little grubby and need cleaning. An unusual farmer doll with lovely features and completely original clothing. I would say this dates to between 1900 and 1910.The last of the two almost identical dolls I found in France on my last trip.More photographs below
