Antique 1930s Chiltern Rupert Bear(Ref:133/2)
November 2020 and Rupert bear is 100 years old! Always a popular bear with children and adults alike, there have been many versions and styles of this iconic Bear over the years.
Here we have a 1930s  Chiltern Bear still in excellent condition considering he is 90 years old. He comes wearing his trademark Rupert scarf. How do we know his age, well he has velveteen carded feet with 4 stitches on the pads and also four stiches on his paws. He has no labels attached to him as labels only came into use from from 1940. He also has lovely glass eyes and  vertical nose stitching with end stitches going upwards. This is a Rare Bear and a chance to buy him on his 100th Anniversary is an opportunity not to be missed. A true collectors item and as such very desirable.
History of Chiltern Bears
Chiltern or Chiltern Toy Works started in Chesham in Buckinghamshire in 1908 by Joseph Eisenmann. The first teddy was produced in 1915. When Joseph died in 1919, the factory was left to Leon Rees, his son in law. Leon moved to Waterside in Chesham a year later and in partnership with Harry Stone formed H.G. Stone and Co. Ltd. They opened a second factory in Tottenham, London in 1921.One of the most popular Chiltern teddy bears was the Hugmee range of bears introduced in 1923. A year later in 1924, Chiltern Toys was registered. Manufacturing moved to Amersham, Bucks and continued producing bears until the factorys closing in 1960.
