Five-way jointed, this sweet old boy is made from light brown short bristle mohair with velveteen paw pads and muzzle. He has amber and black glass eyes, a triangular black stitched nose, stitched claws and a pink felt mouth. His stuffing is wood shavings.He is wearing a cute outfit of knitted shorts with braces and a vintage white cotton baby jacket. Underneath the clothes, you can see that he has a nicely defined hump on his back which dates him to no later than the 1930s. I think he is of German origin but I cannot be certain.He will come with his old cloth picture book which pre-dates him by around 30 years. It includes pictures of a mother bear dressed up in human clothing, children cutting into an enormous pie and one inspired by nursery rhyme characters such as the cat and the fiddle.His mohair is in good condition and his paw pads are also holding up well with just some age-related discolouration in places. There is a small depression on the back of his head, about a half-inch wide. Its not a flaw exactly but worth mentioning all the same. Also, one of his eyes has come a little loose and Im fairly certain that his muzzle has been repaired at some point although the original velveteen has been used, the stitches are not as neat as those on the paw pads.Bear measures approximately 14 inches high, cloth book is 10 inches by 7 inches.100% of the sale price will be donated to Children In Need.
