ADORABLE EARLY SMALLEST SIZE 10CM STEIFF ‘WITTIE’ OWL WITH GLASS EYES (NO I.D.)
This delightful little Steiff ‘Wittie’ Owl no longer retains her i.d. but there can be no mistaking her pedigree!
Measuring only 10 centimetres in height, she is the smallest sized ‘Wittie’ made.
Production dates for ‘Wittie’ were 1955 to 1977, and although her lack of i.d. makes it impossible for me to date her with absolute certainty, the fact that she has glass eyes indicates that she is a very early ‘Wittie’ . . .
and I believe her to have been hatched in 1955.
She is made of mohair, and is filled entirely with wood wool which is still very firmly and evenly distributed.
Her disc jointed head/neck is still nice and firm, and although the listing photos only show this tiny ‘Wittie’ looking straight forwards, she does have the ability to rotate her head 360°.
Her felt legs and feet have wire armatures and can be posed, moved into a variety of positions.
This particular little ‘Wittie’ still retains perfect balance and stands up with the greatest ease without any form of support.She is a very clean little owl and is guaranteed to have no dusty or musty odours of any sort.
Her ear tufts are rather sparse now due to age, but other than this she is in very good condition.
She is very small and extremely sweet and displays beautifully. She would be a delightful little friend for an antique teddy bear, and although she is very fond of trees, she is just as happy to live in a ‘tree free’ home!
‘Wittie’ will travel to her home in conventional manner . . . via Royal Mail, although she would much prefer to rely on her own two wings!
