ADORABLE ANTIQUE 1920S
GOOGLY EYED PINK MOHAIR CAT
This delighful antique cat dates from the 1920’s and to the best of my knowledge she is of English origin.She does not have a makers label, but originally she must have had either a makers trademark button or a hang tag on her chest, as she still retains the string of her tag or button stitched in her chest and the string is in the centre of a circle shaped impression/outline in her mohair. It is possible that she had originally had both label and tag, as she also has a distinct circle impression with four pinholes in the centre, in her mohair on the left side of her body (just behind her front leg). I cannot identify her maker with any certainty, but she is of very good quality and beautifully made. She has the same distinctive smiling muzzle and nose stitching as the dogs and cats made by Einco. She has rather unusual large ears, which are set quite far back on the top corners of her head and continue down the full length each side of her face, ending on her neck (I have included a close up photo of the back of her head which shows this).She measures approximately 8 inches in height (from front paws to tips of ears) and 12 inches in length (from nose to tail).She is made of long pile pink mohair which is beautifully clean, soft and unfaded, and retains approximately 90% coverage. The missing 10% is (1) on the middle of her tail – where she was carried around by her original little owner, (2) on her head – the result of too many pats and kisses, (3) a few sparse patches on her right front leg, right back leg, shoulder and neck (right side).
She has a very small unobtrusive darn on the right side of her neck which is very neatly done and is an excellent colour to her mohair . . . it does not detract from her beauty and is covered by her neck ribbon.She is stuffed entirely with wood wool, which is still very firm and evenly distributed. She has original wire armatures in her legs. She is very well balanced and still stands up perfectly without needing any form of support.She has large original (stitched in) googly glass eyes, and retains some of her tiny black whiskers.
She also retains her original black stitched nose (vertical with longer downwards end stitches), her original black stitched smiling muzzle, and her original little red felt tongue which is fitted into a slit in her muzzle (not stitched on in the conventional manner).Other than the age related playwear I have described she is generally in very good condition for her age.
