Sasha is an amazing old jointed mohair bear by French manufacturer M Pintel Fils, dating to the 1930s.
He is 26″ tall with large clear glass eyes which still have traces of painted backs. His nose stitching, which is completely original, is in the bat wing bat shape typical of M Pintel Fils bears, and original claw and foot stitching.
He is almost completely straw filled, bar the lower part of his arms, with long arms, curved paws and a pronounced hump.to his back. This dates him to the very early years of this design, c 1925, as later bears began to have far more kapok and less straw as filling.
His feet would have originally been card lined but his foot pads have long been replaced with a stockingette material and his arm pads with a silk type material.
His only major problem is that his legs are each only connected to his body by a strong thread, see pics, but this does not prevent him from displaying beautifully in any amount of sitting positions. For him to stand he would need this issue addressed with new leg discs.
His left arm joint moves well but his right arm is fixed with stitches. Despite his issues he is an amazing, rare bear with a great presence. a wonderful deep working growler.
Despite being a grubby in parts due to his age, with a few patches of wear, his mohair is in sound, sweet smelling condition.
He is a wonderful example of an early M Pintel Fils bear and would make a lovely addition to any bear collection.
