Rare small Chad Valley ‘Tubby Rainbow’ red mohair teddy bear. Circa 1920’s
This wonderful little teddy bear was made by Chad Valley in the early 1920’s and is known as a ‘Tubby’ bear.They were made in a range of colours which is why they are sometimes referred to as Rainbow Tubby bears.This one has bright red mohair and long pointed feet as opposed to the more common larger carded feet.
He is unjointed except for his arms which are string jointed and he is stuffed with kapok and has one missing ear and replacement antique glass eyes, which suit him well and some neat stitched repairs around his neck which are not very noticeable. He has been loved and is quite play worn with some missing plush as you can see in the photos but he is a lovely looking bear with great charm and character and would make a fabulousaddition to an hug. He stands at just 9″ tall so would sit very happily in the arms of a larger bear.
