This listing is for what I believe to be a promotional chimpanzee for P.G. Tips.
P.G. Tips launched a solid advertising campaign involving chimpanzees in 1956. These TV. commercials were among the first ever aired and proved to be very well liked by the public. The chimps, who acted out humorous skits, had the voices of personalities like Peter Sellars, Bruce Forsyth, Kenneth Williams and Bob Monkhouse. The PG tips chimps are the longest running characters in British TV advertising.
I would imagine this Promotional Chimpanzee was probably made in the early 60’s. He wears his P.G. shirt and his cap. and is approx 20″ tall. His shoes seem to be moulded to him. His clothes show age as they are dirty. An area has been rubbed off of his nose. He has brown open and closed eyes. His hands are perfect with no breakage etc which does happen with this particular style.. He is far from perfect but still remains an interesting piece of promotional history.
