This is a wonderful and very unusual vintage rabbit, thought to date from the 1940s.
Hes large, standing at approximately 23 inches tall. He is unjointed, and straw stuffed throughout, with what appears to be his original neck ribbon. His body and head are made from a brushed cotton type of material, with the fur on the arms and legs probably being a cotton or wool mohair mix. The overall condition is not bad overall, there are some age related ingrained grime marks, I would not advise trying to wash him as the material is not thick and like a lot of old bears and soft toys would probably not tolerate being got wet, especially as he is hard stuffed with wood wool underneath.
He would have had fur on the back of his ears at one time, this has now gone. The inner ears are made of felt, and there is a tiny hole at the end of one paw where the internal wire is poking through, a very common problem with old soft toys, but easily rectified if the owner wants to. There is also something that looks like a small stitch shaped hole or thinning at the side of his left eye. This is pretty insignificant though.
I found him an old woollen tunic just to protect him, but if his new owner is good at sewing he would look great in a new outfit, possibly with a waistcoat. He also has an inoperative squeaker in his tail, which would also have had fur on it at one time.
Because he is a vintage toy, he’s not suitable for children and is sold as an adult collectable.
Please check the photos carefully as they form part of the description.
Thank you for looking.
