Rare Double Sided Sterling Silver Baby’s Rattle in the form of a Dancing Bear
Complete with jingly jangly silver bells to elbows.
Pretty tinkling sound. Silver embossed leaf patterning to bell tops.An Unusual, All Original Antique
115 years old!
Fully Hallmarked:
Maker’s Mark ‘C&N’ Crisford & Norris
Anchor (Birmingham Assay Mark)
Lion Passant
Date Letter ‘C’ for 1902
(please note – hallmarks are readable, though a little worn)
Weighs: 17.8 grams
Silver loop (open link) on top would have held a teething ring and socket in base would have originally held a mounted stick of coral. This is the main silver body of the rattle. Would have been held around the collar – the place where the hallmark has been stamped.
All in Very good Vintage Condition, with a bright shiny finish.
The detailed features of the cast bears (both sides) are clear and well defined. Minimum wear to them, with clear expressions, fur and paws. Symmetrical postures with seams still strongly fused.
Some surface marks and light scratches commensurate with age.
Patina, rather than damage. A couple of dings to undersides of bells.

6.2 cm (2 1/2 “) total width with bells outstretched

and could be worn on a chain as a pendant
