Norah Wellings was a doll & animal designer for famous manufacturers including Chad Valley. She started her own business in 1926 in Wellington, Shropshire. Production stopped in 1960. Her characters are very collectable.
This Dutch boy was made in the 1920s/1930s. He is 22.5cm (8.75 “) high.
He is an early doll with the grinning smile & side glancing eyes. There is some fading on the front of his velvet body from the sun but the back is brighter. His felt hat and scarf have some miniscule holes & nibbles but hardly noticable. One of his hands has a repair. His face is a little dirty. I have tried to photograph these minor flaws for accuracy.
The label ‘ Made in England Norah Wellings is inside his hat .
He has a very cheeky grin and is in a condition commensurate with his age almost 80 years old.
