A very rare Kookaburra soft toy bird made just before WW11.

Gerald Kirby, founder of Joy Toys in Australia, sold his company and moved to England in 1937 where he started his Kirby Toys business selling dolls, bears and other toy animals.

This Kookaburra will have been made from one of his left over patterns from Australia and would probably have been made before the war, when toy making supplies were easier to access.

Im not sure how popular this particular toy will have been as many English children wouldnt have known the Australian Kookaburra bird.

The bird still has quite a good covering of mohair although a bit thinner on his chest area where there is also a mark.

It has felt, wired feet.

The inserts of blue mohair are still good considering age.

Stuffed with woodwool.

Original glass eyes

Felt beak which has a couple of holes.

2 small repairs near feet.

A lovely character.

Please see photos.
