ADORABLE RARE ANTIQUE 5 WAY JOINTED
CIRCA 1910 STEIFF SCOTTISH TERRIER DOG
This delightful and very hard to find antique Steiff Scottish Terrier dates from circa 1910. He no longer has any identification, but his pedigree is nonetheless unmistakable!His measurements are:
Height from front paws to tip of his ears is 9 inches.
Height from front paws to top of his head (not including his ears) is 8 inches.
Length from nose to tip of tail is 14 inches.
Length of his body (chest to rump) is 10 inches.
He is made of very dark brown, silvery grey tipped mohair which is very clean and retains approximately 95% coverage – with most of the missing 5% being located on the back of his left back leg (close to his tail). His mohair retains very good original colour with with very little age related fading. His seams retain very good original stitching, with no leaks or repairs. He is filled entirely with wood wool, which is still very firmly and evenly distributed, and has a non operative reed & bellows (squeeze type) growler located in his body (ribcage).
He is five way disc jointed (head & all four legs) with all joints being in very good firm condition for his age.
He has original wire armatures inside all four legs, and provided that due care is taken when initially positioning him he still stands up easily and safely without needing any form of support for display. As he’s fully jointed, he can also sit, lie down and beg etc! He has original brown vertically stitched nose with long downward end stitches, original muzzle and original stitched in glass eyes.
He has no series faults or issues, just a little minor light general overall playwear, none of which merits individual note and considering he is around 110 years old he is in generally very good sound condition.His antique green leather studded dog collar dates from around circa 1920 (it was a little too small to fit him, so I have lengthened the strap slightly, but this is not immediately noticable, as the colour match is very good). His large antique brass bell and brass S hook attachment both date from around 1930. Obviously, neither collar or bell are original to him, but they suit him very well, and are included in the sale.Please take the time to look through the listing photos before bidding as they show his condition clearly and accurately, and form an important part of the description.
